Much planned this weekend? We thought not, but don’t fret, as we’ve got you covered with our virtual activity guide to keep you busy from the comfort of your couch.
A real mix of the weird and wonderful, we’ve found live walking tours of your favourite cities, virtual trips to Hogwarts and a digital celebrity catwalk – who said lockdown life had to be boring?
FRONT ROW SEAT AT A CELEBRITY FASHION SHOW (Tonight – 1st May)
Celebrity favourites such as Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, Karlie Kloss and Ashley Graham will be walking an at-home runway this Friday 1st May, styled by renowned fashion editor Carine Roitfeld in partnership with amfAR Against Covid-19.
A first of its kind, the 30-minute virtual runway will be available to stream on YouTube at 9pm UK time (1pm PST), inviting the public to take an exclusive front row seat whilst the famous models and fashionistas ‘walk’ in the safety of their own homes.
NOT-SO-TYPICAL TOURIST DAY IN
A number of tour guides and travel pages have created fantastic digital tours, of some of the most popular tourist attractions across the globe. Google Arts & Culture have compiled a range of virtual experiences – including museum visits, treks to world famous monuments and culture tours of much-loved European cities.
See Your City also has a range of options in the UK, from a ‘walk’ around Scotland’s darkest secrets to a Magic of Film tour across London. For just £5, you could be transported to a completely different, virtual city in seconds.
Popular app ‘Let’s Day Out’ have also launched ‘Let’s Day In’ (clever) and are hosting an array of free, virtual tours and classes – virtual tourists are just asked to make a donation to the World Health Organisation.
TAKE A VISIT TO HOGWARTS
Always wanted to leave the muggle life behind and go to Hogwarts? Well now is your chance, as a Harry Potter Escape Room has been created online for you and your friends to experience a little magic from the comfort of your own home.
Created by American librarian Sydney Krawiec, The Hogwarts Digital Escape Room can be played alone or with a group, challenging participants with a number of Harry Potter themed questions and puzzles to keep wizarding fans entertained. The digital escape room is completely free, and can be accessed here.
If you’re a super Potter fan and want to take the magic to the next level – why not try a potion making class? Social networking group Hogwarts Is Here have created an online realm where fans are able to join their favourite houses and sign up to classes such as potion making, astronomy and history of magic.
WINE TASTING
A glass of wine is a fine thing during lockdown – so why not discover some new blends? You can choose from a range of tasting courses online, but we particularly like the weekend sessions from Pull The Cork. Customers simply purchase the tasting box and even receive food pairings ahead of time – participants then join their host on Instagram Live to talk through the notes and flavours.
SECRET CINEMA’S ‘SECRET SOFA’
Secret Cinema specialises in immersive cinema experiences and is renowned for its interactive film nights in top secret locations across the UK. Now bringing the fun to your very own home – Secret Sofa will be a home-screening like no other, as the group brings the film to life with actors, sets and props. Join their mailing list for further details and be ready to tune in, every Friday at 7.30pm.
BINGO!
Enjoy a night of fun and games with a live Bingo session – Dabbers Social Bingo invites participants to join them every Saturday, with a hilarious host, party tunes and virtual prizes, it’s one not to be missed. Cult favourite Bongo’s Bingo have also been treating fans to live sessions throughout lockdown – they’re yet to release dates for their next show, but keep your eyes on their social pages.
GET YOUR FLEABAG FIX
Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Fleabag stage show is now available to stream online – yes, we’re very excited too. For a minimum donation of just £4 (going towards Covid-19 charities) you can watch on Soho Theatre’s On Demand site.
