BBC Sports Personality of the Year Returns

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year show is to return this year and take place live on BBC One in December.

While 2020 has seen some major disruptions to some iconic sporting events including Wimbledon, The Olympics and Euro 2020, TV favourite Sports Personality of the Year is set to go ahead on 20th December at MediaCityUK, Salford.

Championing teams that triumphed and athletes that achieved greatness despite the pandemic, the event will also look at the coaches and local heroes that helped to make it possible. The ceremony is also set to celebrate ordinary members of the public this year, as many used sport and fitness to keep going through these challenging times.

The BBC’s Director of Sport, Barbara Slater, said: “As we know, it has been a strange and unprecedented year, but we have still been fortunate enough to see plenty of sporting highlights which we look forward to honouring on the night. The sixty-seventh BBC Sports Personality of the Year award promises to be another exciting and tough choice for audiences.”

Last hosted in Salford in 2011, the Sports Personality of the Year will take place in MediaCityUK, airing on BBC One on December 20th. Nominations for the BBC Unsung Hero awards 2020 are now open.
