The London Resort was first announced in 2012, but proposals for the ‘evolved masterplan’ have now opened for a public consultation.
Dubbed the “UK’s answer to Disneyland”, the 535-acre site will be first park of its kind to be built in Europe, from scratch, since Disneyland Paris in 1992.
Located less than 20 minutes from Central London in Swanscombe, Kent, the expansive resort will see dozens of rides, attractions, entertainment, eSports and conference venues, across two theme parks. There will also be 3,500 hotel rooms on site, split across four new hotels.
Having signed a deal with Paramount, the park will feature rides based on the studio’s films, as well as TV shows from the BBC and ITV.
The London Resort’s chief executive, PY Gerbeau, said: “The London Resort represents a unique opportunity to bring a thrilling and exciting global entertainment destination to the UK with a breadth of facilities.
“It is the first project of its kind to be designated a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project so… it is also important for the nation to have its say.”
Those behind the project believe The London Resort will create 9,000 direct and 20,000 indirect jobs within its first year and will boost economies across Kent and Essex.
Gerbeau added: “”As well as maximising new, immersive and interactive technologies, our aim is also to be one of the most sustainable major theme parks in the world, pursuing an operational net zero emissions goal.”
If the plans are given the go-ahead, construction could begin in early 2022 for the park opening in 2024.
Consultation will run until September 21st, to learn more visit https://londonresort.info/.
