The regional tourism body changed its name on social media following the new government guidelines allowing people in England to ‘travel to open space, irrespective of distance’.
Simon Blackburn, the leader of Blackpool Council, said there was nothing that could be done to stop visitors driving to the seaside town but warned the public that “none of the traditional attractions that you want to see will be open, you won’t be able to get the food you usually get, or do the things you can normally do.”
As reported by the BBC, a spokesperson for Visit Blackpool has confirmed that the temporary rebranding was introduced “as a reminder to our visitors that they should stay away” before adding that they are looking forward “to a time when we can revert back to our original branding.”
The headline catching move follows concerns that seaside resorts and national parks across England could be inundated with visitors this week as the weather improves.
In a similar vein, Visit Chester has rebranded as Visit Chester (Soon) and Liverpool’s tourism body is enouncing the public to Visit Liverpool Later.
Following the Government’s latest guidance, Blackpool hopes to be able to begin reopening parts of the resort as soon as July.
